Ezdan Mall in Al Wukair partly opens to the public
The first mall in Qatar’s Al Wukair town has soft-opened to the public following the launch of a Grand Hypermarket yesterday.
The store is on the ground floor of Ezdan Mall Al Wukair, which is south of Doha. It is part of a collection of 11 two-story buildings that are connected through corridors.
When fully operational, the mall is expected to host several restaurants, a large children’s play area, gaming zone, around 60 shops and a clinic.
Meeting Wukair’s needs
Ezdan is also planning to open a mall in Al Wakrah this year. The move comes as more of Qatar’s population is relocating outside of Doha.
According to 2015 government figures, the Al Wakrah district has grown much faster than the overall population in the past few years.
The town has its own hospital, souq and farmer’s market, and is now home to some 300,000 people.
Commenting on yesterday’s inauguration, Ezdan Holding group COO Dr. Mousa Al Awwad said the company hopes to build on the success of its first mall, Ezdan Mall in Gharafa.
In a statement, he added:
“The mall is the first of its kind and (a) vital addition to the vibrant and increasingly populous regions of Al Wakrah and Al Wukair, Mesaieed and Barwa, thanks to its strategic location.
It will be an important outlet to serve the 25 Ezdan Villages who host over 70,000 people.”
For its part, the Grand Hypermarket branch will sell fresh produce, food products, healthcare and beauty goods, appliances and other items.
